How to Skin a Cabinet Part 2

Tools needed:

  • Citrus adhesive remover
  • Wood router

Instructions:

  1. After waiting ten minutes from the time the adhesive was applied, lay the skin onto the cabinet.
  2. Check to make sure the skin butts right up to the frame so there is no gap.
  3. If there is a big gap, try flipping the skin and applying on the other end.
  4. Slide the skin on and smack it a few times to make sure it’s on evenly.
  5. Route the edges of the skin and wipe away the sawdust.
  6. If there is any excess glue, apply some citrus adhesive remover and scrub off with a cloth to remove the glue.

Raw transcription:

Once you’ve waited your ten minutes then you can apply the skin. It butts right up to the frame on there, you can see it right here, you want to make sure that you don’t really have much of a gap. Sometimes you’ll have a little bit of a gap, that’s not a big deal, if see it to where you have a really big gap, you can grab the skin and flip it around and try on the other side and sometimes that will help.

Then we’ll just lay the skin down on there and just kind of slide the skin on and give it a few good smacks to make sure it’s on nice and even. Once the skin is on there then we will route(?) the edges. You will need to use a router or something like this to be able to cut around the edges.

Wipe away the sawdust.

Every once in a while you will have some excess glue here. What we use is just a citrus adhesive remover. Spray that on, grab a wipe cloth and it scrubs right off. That is how you apply a skin.
